Kurt Cobain said that he wrote Heart Shaped Box in the early part of 1992 but forgot about it for a
while. There has been much discussion about the inspiration for the lyrics, and especially where the
song’s title came from. Some say it came from a heart shaped box that Cobain’s wife,
Courtney Love had given him, others that Kurt had originally called the song ‘heart shaped coffin’.
